The Eysturkommuna town hall has received several international awards – such as the Global Architecture & Design Awards 2018 (GADA).
The beach in Syðrugøta is undoubtedly the largest playground in the entire municipality – given to us by nature. In late June the new gymnasium graduates gather on the beach for a part of their dimission, and for one weekend in July the beach is transformed into a part of the G! musical festival.
The Church of GøtaPlaces
Prior to its inauguration in 1995, the inhabitants of Gøta attended their church services in the old Church of Gøta in Norðragøta.
The Old Church of GøtaPlaces
The old Church of Gøta was built completely from timber in 1833 and is situated in Norðragøta. Churches have stood on this very spot since at least the early 18th century.
A large archaeological excavation at Toftanes in Leirvík in 1982–1987 revealed a Nordic settlement.
The name of the ancient Viking chief Tróndur is all over the villages of Gøta.
